‘Act Together’ hosted by Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council at the Liverpool Echo Arena was an unqualified success. It enabled a number of New Heys Gifted and Talented pupils to ‘reach for the stars.’ Kate Keeton, a Year 10 student who aspires to make a career in Drama wrote and directed a play on the theme of ‘Alcoholism’. Undaunted by the presence of a huge audience including dignitaries like ACC Simon Byrne and Colin Hilton, Chief Executive of Liverpool City Council, students like Ben Burke (Year 7); Leah Cresswell, Hannah Crookall, Sarah Graham and Shemiera Eden (Year 8); Nicola Jenkins, Kate Martin, Callum Doctor, Charlotte Dinely, Leanne Ayres and of course, the talented Kate Keeton (Year 10), all performed with grace and aplomb to a captive audience. As Kate said after the event :
“I thought it was a truly spectacular evening. The excitement made me feel as if I was defying gravity.”
Mrs Foy, Deputy Head had this to add :
“It was a very enjoyable evening with schools sending out a powerful message to communities.”
The pupils were accompanied by two teachers from the Communication Directorate, Mrs Bhattacharya (Director of Communication) and Mr. Hart (Joint Head of Sixth Form) who helped to co-ordinate the project for the community.
