Clacton County High School - English Shine Week

Clacton County High School - English Shine Week

Clacton County High School's English Department celebrated 'Shine Week' with a 'Writer In Residence'. Local poet, Martin Newell led various workshops for students across the year groups. The sessions included Lyric writing, Performance Poetry workshops with Year 9 students and a day spent with Year 8 Gifted and Talented on an ‘Ode to CCHS’. Particular English stars, who shone during the week, were Alan Kemp for the Lyric session, where he performed an original song of his and received constructive advice from Martin Newell and Lloyd Cole for Year 8 poetry, whose work so impressed Mr Newell, that he took out his own copy of one of his poetry books and signed it to give to Lloyd! Martin will be writing about his time at CCHS for his regular feature in the East Anglian Daily Times. The special sessions with Martin Newell were complimented by a wide range of creative workshops that took the place of English lessons for Year 9 students for the week. They had the opportunity to choose a workshop for the week which included Story Telling, TV Presenting, Newspaper and Journalism, Book Club and Poetry.
