Clacton County High School is having one of their best sporting years ever with achievements across the board. The winning results have had an addictive effect with all the schools sport teams determined to maintain the winning streak. Early in the year the school’s Year 7 Netball team won the local Coastal schools tournament before going on to win the district competition and crowned as North East Essex Champions. This year the Year 9 netballers had their sights focused on the county competition and managed to progress as far as the Essex Cup Quarter Finals before their cup run came to an end against Brentwood High School. On the rugby field the school also dominated with the Year 7, Year and Year 10 teams crowned as Coastal Schools champions; the Year 8 and 10 teams went on to finish runners-up in the District matches, both losing out to Philip Mornant, a Nationally recognised rugby school. Football is no longer a male orientated sport and the school’s girls teams set a tough target for the boys to follow after they won both the North East Essex District Under 12 and the Under 16 Cups. The boys weren’t going to allow the girls to take all the glory and made their point recently with both the Year 8 and Year 10 football teams being crowned as District Champions. The Year 10 boys won their championship only last week against Thurstable school but put the school’s supporters through a agonising time after letting their 2 goal lead slip way in the last minutes of the game, pushing it into extra-time. It was only a goal from CCHS in the dying minutes of the additional time that secured their victory. The Year 8 footballers also had their best County Football Cup run in the school’s history this year after putting some of the top teams out of the knock-out competition. The team made it through to the Quarter Finals where they were beaten by the eventual cup winners and nationally competitive team William Edwards Sports College from Grays. The schools fantastic year was recently topped off with a clean sweep at the Coastal Schools Athletics Championship were the team came away with all of the silverware including the overall championship title. After the top performances a number of the school’s athletes have now been chosen to represent North East Essex at the Essex County Championships in a few weeks.
